History

The first mention of Vernum's place name as 'Virnem' occurred in 1294/1295. Vernum formed a parish and belonged to Nieukerk in church organization.

In 1843, Vernum was run as a special municipality of the mayoralty of Sevelen with 1218 inhabitants. The population was 830 in the year of municipal integration (1969)

Since 1 July 1969, the formerly independent municipality has belonged to the city of Geldern
